Why #FosteringMoments Matter

Celebrating Foster Care Fortnight 2024, an annual campaign to raise awareness about the transformative power of foster care. This year’s theme, #FosteringMoments, highlights the small, everyday moments that make a big impact on the lives of foster children and their carers.

One of our dedicated foster carers, who has been with us for 14 years, shares her heartfelt experience, encapsulating the essence of what it means to foster:

“Being a foster mother for the past 14 years has been challenging and rewarding. The children we have looked after have all bonded with us, which in turn gave them more confidence and self-belief. There have been situations where I had to cancel a placement due to challenges I knew I couldn't manage, as I had younger birth children in my home. As a foster mother, I feel you need to know your weaknesses and strengths and ensure you protect yourself in terms of managing risk. I get a lot of satisfaction from fostering, especially when I see the transformation of my looked-after children, and also knowing that because of me, they feel hopeful and happy. Most of my looked-after children end up calling me mum. They all bond with the entire family. Sometimes, it's very difficult to say goodbye to them because we feel they become part of the family. I have thoroughly enjoyed fostering and have no regrets.”
