Urgent Call for Foster Carers in 2025: Your Opportunity to Make a Difference

8 January 2025

Your Opportunity to Make a Difference..

As we enter 2025, the UK's fostering landscape faces significant challenges. Recent data reveals a decline in the number of fostering households, intensifying the need for compassionate individuals to step forward and provide safe, nurturing homes for vulnerable children.

Current Fostering Statistics

  • Decline in Fostering Households: The number of fostering households in England has decreased by 6% since 2021, with 42,615 households reported in 2024. (Reported by The Fostering Network)
  • Children in Care: As of March 2024, approximately 56,390 children were living with foster families, representing 67% of the 83,630 children in care. (Reported by The Fostering Network)
  • Shortage of Foster Families: The Fostering Network estimates a current shortage of 6,500 foster families across the UK, highlighting an urgent need for more carers. (Reported by The Fostering Network)

Why the Urgent Need?

The decline in fostering households, coupled with an increasing number of children entering the care system, has created a pressing demand for new foster carers. Without sufficient foster families, children may be placed in unsuitable accommodations, impacting their well-being and development.
